Increase Testosterone through Tim Ferriss’s Testosterone Diet

On page 253 of The Four Hour Body (highly recommended), author Tim Ferriss discusses the diet he used for nearly tripling his testosterone.  He took his testosterone level from 244.8 nanograms per deciliter to 653.3 while cutting his estradiol (estrogen) in half.  I followed this diet to a T for several months and although I never measured my testosterone levels (something I plan to do), I did feel a certain fire in my loins that did not go unnoticed by my girlfriend at the time.  At first she was flattered by the frequency, then annoyed by said frequency, then exhausted by said frequency.  Honey, again?

Here is what Tim recommends.

  • Fermented Cod Liver Oil + Vitamin-Rich Butter Fat – 2 capsules in the morning and 2 at night
  • Vitamin D3 – 3000-5000 IU in the morning and again before bed
  • Brazil Nuts – 3 nuts when you wake up and 3 before bed
  • Short ice baths or cold showers – 10 minutes in the morning and before bed

 

Testosterone Diet Specifics

One brand, Blue Ice, makes a mixed blend of cod liver and butter fat.  If you get the Cod liver oil separately from the Butter Fat, I would assume it’s 1 Cod liver capsule and 1 Butter Fat capsule in the morning and night.

Tim says that the optimal level of D3 is 55 ng/mL.  Since basically no one is going to test their vitamin D3 levels, I would just say don’t overdo it.  If you wanted to test it, there are inexpensive vitamin D3 tests available out there.

The Brazil nuts supply selenium and are only necessary if you are selenium deficient.  You have to be some kind of health freak to test this, but this is the kind of site that attracts health freaks so I wouldn’t be surprised.  As for me, I’ll just eat the damn 6 Brazil nuts a day.

Don’t neglect the ice baths.  Although they are totally miserable, you can feel their health benefits immediately.  You emerge feeling like a million bucks.  Quick aside, sometimes after I get sick, I have a random bout of incessant coughing.  It’s an uncontrollable, unstoppable cough that simply will not go away.  I have taken oral steroids, inhalers, Chinese herbs, acupuncture sessions, and anti-biotics and the only thing that works is ice baths.
